All radiator enamels have general requirements:
Doubtless, it is better to use special paints and varnishes designed for metal pipes and radiators.
The assortment of “MC “POLYSAN” LTD has both alkyd and waterborne products, which are intended for application on radiators:
Do not apply enamel on hot pipes and radiators and start exploiting them before the enamel has been completely dried!
The surface must be dry, thoroughly cleaned of dust, rust, scale, grease and other dirt.
If the surface has not been coated before, it should be thoroughly cleaned of all kinds of dirt and degreased. It is recommended to undercoat bare metal surfaces of radiators with a layer of anti-corrosion primer GP-021 TM “Farbex” for better finishing result.
Remove old loose paint coats from the surface till the hard surface base mechanically (with a scraper or a brush), thermally (with a hot air dryer or infrared radiation) or using chemicals (paint removing products).
The surfaces, previously coated with oil or alkyd paints, shall be sandpapered till a mat to achieve better adhesion.
Defects of the surface like holes, cracks or bumps, shall be corrected with Putty for wood and mineral surfaces TM Farbex. Finish putty TM Farbex is a good option for minor defects of mineral surfaces.
The surface, treated with a putty, shall be polished till a smooth surface. Remove abrasive dust from the surface
Clean thoroughly a metal surface from rust with a metal brush or/and sandpaper. It is recommended to treat the surface with a chemical removers before mechanical ways of removing for better results.
Application
The most common and useful tool of application is a brush (1-2 coats of the enamel). Less applicable methods are with a roller or a spraying gun. Depending on the surface and form of the radiator, the choice of the brush can deviate from a brush with a long handle to the one with a short thick or thin handle.
It is necessary to treat the first applied coat of the enamel with sandpaper before applying the second coat, in the case of two-layered coating.
And the last tip: do not apply the enamel on the radiator taps, as the coating will bar the mechanism from correct working.
