Wood oil Maxima

The timber, which is intended to be treated with oil, must be dry on all stages of preparation - humidity is less than 20%. We recommend treating only clean timber with oil. In case you need to treat previously coated wood with oil, you have to remove all old paint products from the surface. 

Remove all kinds of contaminations from the surface (dust, grease, resin and others). If there are resin deposits on the wooden surface, they shall be removed from the surface mechanically (with a spatula or a scratcher). After that, the places, which were previously contaminated with resin, grease stains, rests of detergents, shall be wiped with a universal thinner TM Maxima.

If timber is corrupted with mould or fungi, you must remove all corrupted areas: firstly, it must be done mechanically and then treat the surface with an antiseptic for wooden surfaces TM Farbex. The surface shall be polished and dusted off.

Treat the timber with sandpaper along the fibers, starting from coarse-grained sandpaper and gradually changing it to fine-grained one and add a surface attractive look, emphasize the wood pattern, improve application properties and prolong the exploitation period for the coating. The grain size of the finishing sandpaper depends on the desired result. For example, we recommend 150 sandpaper for terraces and floors, 240-320 sandpaper for furniture.

We recommend removing dust from the surface with a vacuum cleaner or a wet cloth after preparing the surface. 

Metal elements in the surface shall be made of zinc-coated metal or stainless steel. Iron elements shall be coated with special primers or other anticorrosion products to prevent rust.

Before use subordinate products (glue, antiseptic, stucco, wood cleaning solutions, bleaches and others) we recommend checking if the products can combine on a small area or the surface, following technical recommendations and consultations of the specialists.

It requires no advanced undercoating.

Before applying the oil, ensure the timber is dry after preparation.

Stir the oil carefully before use. The oil is ready to use and requires no diluting. 

We recommend applying the oil on wooden surfaces along the fibers in 2-3 coats and, if possible, until the timber is fully penetrated. The quantity of coats depends on the kind of wood, texture and age of the wood. We recommend applying the oil by a contact method (with a brush or a sponge), rubbing it into the wooden surface. Remove extra oil with a clean cloth from the surface in 10-15 minutes. Apply all subsequent coats after 4 hours. Stir the oil during the application from time to time.

We recommend renewing the timber annually.

If you need a more saturated tone, you can apply additional coats of oil. Every subsequent coat makes the color more saturated. To achieve a desired color saturation with a smaller consumption, we recommend adding a coat of colorless oil. However, when you choose a color, you should consider whether the species of wood is suitable for applying two or more coats.

Carry out the application at a temperature of the air and the surface from + 10 °С to + 35 °С and relative air humidity less than 80%. Provide good ventilation in the premises when you apply and dry the oil indoors. Do not apply the product under direct sunlight, strong wind, frost and precipitation. After application, the coating must not be affected by precipitation or subzero temperatures for 48 hours.

The surface achieves final protective traits after 14 days.

The surface under higher mechanical influence is recommended to be coated with alkyd-urethane varnish TM Maxima. For the quality protection of the timber, treat it with oil from all sides before mantling and fixing details. For mantling wooden parts treated with oil we recommend to use nails and screws made of galvanized and stainless steel. The elements of wooden constructions, made of iron, must be coated with some anticorrosion primers or similar products.

Working with hard and exotic species of wood, do testing application of all coats of the protective coating on a small area, following all required directions. In case of unusual implementation (for example, materials, which are used for furniture and floor materials, exotic and hard species of wood, etc.), we recommend calling the specialists from POLYSAN company. The wood oil doesn't provide hydro-isolating features (do not use it for the timber, which is constantly staying in soil or water).

To avoid differences in shades of color, we recommend coating the surface with the product of one batch. If you use the products of various batches, you must mix them together.

Do not leave a container with paint open when you work with oil. A quality result when you apply the oil requires woodworking and carpentry skills.

Compatibility with other coatings

Depending on the terms of exploitation, the oil can be used with various preparatory materials and finishing coatings. The examples of compatibility are listed below. If you want to have precise recommendations, call the specialists of POLYSAN company. 

A previous coating - we recommend applying the oil on the clean surface. If you use the oil to restore the timber, which was previously treated with oil from other manufacturers, it is necessary to check their compatibility on a small area, following all directions or specialists' recommendations. 

The next layer - renovation is recommended with  Wood Oil TM Maxima. You may also cover the surface with alkyd-based products.

Clean working tools with diluent and then, if necessary, with warm water with detergents. After you finish work with wood oil, all used materials (cloth, sponges, etc.) shall be washed with detergents to avoid self-flaming. Then dry them in the fresh air and utilize them according to the rules of local legislation.
