How to coat a ceiling without problems?

The fact is that coating of a room with waterborne paints shall be started from the ceiling.
There is certain sequence of work you should keep:

At the beginning, we must prepare the surface::

1. Cleaning

It is necessary to prepare correctly the surface for the coating: the ceiling shall be “washed out”, cleaned from dirt, dust and old finishing material (in case if the ceiling was previously coated). Make the surface of the ceiling dry.

2. Undercoating

You can start undercoating after all cleaning work is complete and the surface is dry. What gives us this stage? Priming of the surface hardens the fragile surface, improves adhesion to the base and subsequent finishing material. In this case, it is good to use acrylic primer «Super Base» TM Farbex. It will create effective protection against fungi and mould, harden and maximize the absorbency of the surface. You also can use acrylic primer concentrate «Super Base 1:4» TM Farbex, if the area is large. This product is diluted with clean water in a ratio of 1 part of the primer to 4 parts of water.

3. Plastering
If you have any flaws and defects, you must put out them with putty. Apply putty in 1-2 layers depending on the surface condition. The surface shall be polished with fine-grained sandpaper. Then remove the dust after the surface is completely dry.

4. Undercoating

Repeated undercoating is devoted to improve adhesion with subsequent paint material. Use acrylic primer «Super Base» TM Farbex or acrylic primer concentrate «Super Base 1:4»TM Farbex for this purpose again.

Coating

1.Choose a paint.

It is important to choose the right paint depending on the room exploitation purposes to achieve the best result. Apply paints, which can resist constant moisture and repeated washing, on the ceilings in the kitchen or the bathroom. “Wet Rooms” TM Farbex is a good choice for this type of work. The paint has high vapor permeability, contains special additives that provide reliable surface protection against mould and fungi.
You can choose “Brilliant White” TM Farbex (a white interior paint for walls and ceilings) to coat the ceiling in the living room, hallway or any other room to make them perfectly white.
Optionally, you can add the pigment to the paint and receive any color you want. Machine and manual methods are both applicable and convenient to do even at home.

2. Application of the paint. Sequence and tools.

At the beginning, apply paint on hard-to-reach places with angle roller or a brush. After that start coating the ceiling from the window side in the direction of the light. Coating is performed in stripes with width of 3 rollers. Use a roller with long hair and an extension holder to make the work without a ladder from the floor. Use much paint on a roller to avoid quick drying of the surface.
